Authenticated root code execution via hostname injection
Published Jun 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Command injection in Mitel 6869i firmware through 4.5.0.41 and 5.x through 5.0.0.1018 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands as root. The provis.html endpoint writes an unsanitized hostname to /nvdata/etc/local.cfg, and boot scripts embed that value in a shell command. Exploitation requires authenticated Web UI access and a device boot, after which injected shell metacharacters run with root privileges.
