Notice dismissal via missing nonce validation
Published Jan 2, 2025 · Updated Apr 28, 2026
Cross-site request forgery in Desert Themes NewsMash 1.0.34 and earlier allows remote attackers to dismiss administrative notices. The newsmash_ajax_notice_handler() function accepts the state-changing dismissal request without correctly validating a WordPress nonce. Exploitation requires a site administrator to follow a crafted link or visit an attacker-controlled page while authenticated, and the bounded effect is removal of dashboard notices.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
