CVE-2024-37408Public exploit

Privilege escalation via unattended fingerprint authorization

Published Jun 8, 2024 · Updated Sep 6, 2024

Authentication confusion in Fprint Project fprintd 1.94.3 and earlier allows local users to authorize unintended privileged Sudo commands. With pam_fprintd.so marked sufficient for Sudo, a background prompt accepts an enrolled fingerprint without binding consent to the requesting terminal or command. The behavior requires a local session, an enrolled fingerprint, user interaction, and the affected PAM policy; maintainers dispute that it is a flaw in fprintd.
