Privilege escalation via writable project macros
Published Nov 12, 2024 · Updated Nov 12, 2024
Improper input validation in Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk View Machine Edition 14 allows local users to execute code with elevated privileges. Default project folders grant the Windows INTERACTIVE group write access, so a local user can alter or delete HMI files and replace a project macro with arbitrary code. Exploitation requires low-privilege local access and passive execution of the modified macro, exposing the higher-privilege application context to code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
