CVE-2024-37282Network attack vector

API key privilege escalation via improper authorization

Published Jun 28, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Elastic Cloud Enterprise 3.0.0 through 3.7.1 has improper authorization that lets remote authenticated users elevate API-key privileges. An API key created with constrained privileges can create new keys carrying higher privileges, so authorization does not preserve the creator key's privilege ceiling. Possession of a qualifying API key and Elastic's undisclosed specific preconditions are required; resulting keys can exercise elevated access.
