CVE-2024-37034Network attack vector

Credential disclosure via SCRAM-SHA downgrade to PLAIN

Published Jul 26, 2024 · Updated Mar 14, 2025

Credential negotiation weakness in Couchbase Server 6.0.0 through 7.2.4 and 7.6.0 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to obtain credentials. During remote-link setup, the SDK accepts a downgrade from its default SCRAM-SHA negotiation to PLAIN instead of enforcing SCRAM-SHA. Reachability requires Half-Secure remote link encryption and an attacker positioned between peers; exposure is limited to the negotiated credentials.
