Unauthorized experimental item creation via REST API
Published Jul 1, 2024 · Updated Feb 28, 2025
Missing authorization in the Splunk REST API allows remote authenticated users without admin or power roles to create experimental items. The API accepts POST requests to experimental endpoints without enforcing the role restriction required for item creation. A low-privileged account and network access to the API are required; the bounded consequence is unauthorized item creation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
