Stored XSS via unescaped dashboard URLs
Published Jul 1, 2024 · Updated Feb 28, 2025
Stored XSS in Splunk Enterprise and Cloud Platform allows remote authenticated users to run JavaScript in another user’s browser. The ping URL attribute in a View and the url parameter in Splunk Web Bulletin Messages accept user input without proper validation or escaping, so saved content is rendered as executable script. A low-privileged account without the admin or power role can plant the payload, but another user must view the affected content; the result is script execution in that user’s browser.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=9.0 <9.0.10
- Affected versionversion=9.1 <9.1.5
- Affected versionversion=9.2 <9.2.2
