Unauthenticated file disclosure via drive-relative path traversal
Published Jul 1, 2024 · Updated Feb 28, 2025
Path traversal in Splunk Web on Windows allows remote attackers to read arbitrary local files through the messaging endpoint. The endpoint passes attacker-controlled drive-prefixed path tokens to Python os.path.join, which drops matching drive letters and resolves traversal outside the intended directory. Exposure requires Splunk Web to be enabled and affects 9.0.0 through 9.0.9, 9.1.0 through 9.1.4, and 9.2.0 through 9.2.1; the demonstrated consequence is unauthorized file disclosure.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
