Use-after-free via unlocked VLAN list traversal
Published Jun 19, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux kernel bridge MST code from 5.18 allows local users to access freed VLAN memory during timer processing. The br_mst_vlan_set_state path walks the bridge VLAN list without an RCU read-side lock, so the forward-delay timer can dereference a concurrently freed VLAN. Low-privileged local access is required; the published record does not identify a demonstrated exploit consequence beyond the memory-safety violation.
