CVE-2024-36934

Local out-of-bounds read via unterminated debugfs buffer

Published May 30, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

An out-of-bounds read in the Linux kernel bna debugfs interface allows local users to read beyond an allocated buffer. The bnad_debugfs_write_regrd and bnad_debugfs_write_regwr handlers copy exactly nbytes from userspace with memdup_user, then pass the unterminated buffer to sscanf. Low-privilege local access to the affected bna debugfs write interfaces is required; the public record does not establish a reliable crash or disclosure of specific data.
