CVE-2024-36926

Boot failure via missing DMA-window property

Published May 30, 2024 · Updated May 23, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in the pSeries IOMMU code in affected Linux kernels allows local users to stop an LPAR from booting on POWER systems. pci_dma_bus_setup_pSeriesLP reads a missing ibm,dma-window Open Firmware property while configuring the frozen PE's PCI bus, dereferencing NULL. Reachability requires an IBM POWER pSeries LPAR to boot while firmware exposes a frozen PE without that property; the resulting kernel oops interrupts boot.
