Kernel crash via locked session-resource release
Published May 30, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Improper locking in the Linux kernel bnx2fc driver allows local users to trigger a system crash during Fibre Channel session upload. The bnx2fc_free_session_resc() path holds a bottom-half spinlock while freeing uploaded-session DMA resources, causing vunmap() to reach a BUG_ON. Reachability requires local low-privileged access and an active bnx2fc Fibre Channel over Ethernet session; the documented consequence is a kernel crash and reboot.
