CVE-2024-36916

Unspecified impact via oversized delay shift

Published May 30, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026

Undefined behavior in Linux kernel blk-iocost allows attackers to cause unspecified impact via an oversized delay shift. The iocg_kick_delay path shifts the unsigned iocg->delay value right without first ensuring that the exponent is below the 64-bit width. The condition occurs during blk-iocost delay handling on some architectures; published assessments disagree on reachability, and the upstream record establishes no concrete consequence.
