Local system crash via unchecked IPv6 interface pointer
Published May 30, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026
A NULL pointer dereference in Linux IPv6 routing allows local users to crash affected systems through an SCTP connection attempt. In fib6_rule_action, ip6_dst_idev can return NULL, but the result is dereferenced without the required check while resolving the IPv6 route. Low-privileged local access is sufficient; successful exploitation raises a general-protection fault and interrupts the system without reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
