CVE-2024-36676Network attack vector

User enumeration and email flooding via password resets

Published Jul 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Incorrect access control in BookStack before 24.05.1 allows remote attackers to enumerate users and flood them with reset emails. The password-reset handler lets unauthenticated callers submit unlimited email addresses and takes longer when mail is generated, exposing account existence through response timing. The public password-reset form requires no account, and repeated requests can disclose registered addresses and overwhelm those users with notification mail.
