Authenticated thumbnail modification via missing capability checks
Published Apr 23, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in Quick Featured Images 13.7.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to alter thumbnails on others' posts. The set_thumbnail and delete_thumbnail functions process post targets without checking whether the caller can edit the selected post. Contributor-level access is sufficient to add or delete another author's featured images, limiting the demonstrated impact to unauthorized content modification.
