Local restriction bypass via cleartext configuration password
Published Jun 24, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Cleartext password storage in Faronics WINSelect before 8.30.xx.903 allows local users to recover its administrative password. The decrypted WINSelect.wsd XML places the configuration secret directly in the ADMINPASSWORD element instead of a one-way verifier. Exploitation requires local file access and decryption; the recovered password permits removal of workstation restrictions and complete disablement.
