Local configuration disclosure and tampering via permissive ACLs
Published Jun 24, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Incorrect default permissions in Faronics WINSelect before 8.30.xx.903 allow local users to read and alter its configuration file. The Standard and Enterprise configuration files grant Everyone read and write access, although WSEngine locks the Standard file while running. A local session is sufficient to inspect the encrypted data or alter it when unlocked, enabling restriction bypass when combined with the separately tracked decryption and password flaws.
