Authenticated command execution via unbounded SSID copy
Published Jan 14, 2025 · Updated Jan 14, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Wavlink AC3000 M33A8.V5030.210505 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands via HTTP. The wireless.cgi set_wifi_basic() handler passes the unbounded SSID2G POST value to sprintf(), which copies it into a fixed-size stack buffer and overwrites the return address. Administrative access to the router web interface is required; successful control-flow corruption executes commands with the CGI process's privileges, while malformed attempts can crash wireless.cgi.
