CVE-2024-36492Network attack vector

Local-user overwrite via unchecked remote synchronization

Published Aug 1, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2024

Improper access control in Mattermost shared-channel synchronization allows remote authenticated users to overwrite existing local users. The user-sync path accepts a remote user update for an identity that already belongs to a local account instead of rejecting the collision. Exploitation requires a trusted connection between Mattermost servers and can replace local account data during synchronization.
