Local denial of service via symbolic-link file creation
Published Jun 10, 2024 · Updated Mar 28, 2025
Link following in Trend Micro VPN 5.8.1012 and earlier allows local users to cause a system denial of service via a symbolic link. The VPN Background Controller follows an attacker-created symbolic link when its local HTTP endpoint creates a file, allowing overwrite or creation at a chosen path. Low-privileged code execution on Windows is required; the documented result is system interruption, with privilege escalation limited to special conditions.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
