Improper authorization in affected Zabbix API releases allows remote authenticated users to add themselves to administrator groups through user.update. CUser::update accepts attacker-controlled usrgrps replacements for the caller's own account without verifying authorization for the requested groups. Any user role retaining user.update API access can join enabled, unrestricted groups, including Zabbix Administrators, and inherit their privileges.
