CVE-2024-36403Network attack vector

Service interruption via unbounded remote-media caching

Published Jan 16, 2025 · Updated Feb 12, 2025

Resource exhaustion in t2bot.io Matrix Media Repo before 1.3.5 allows remote attackers to interrupt service through remote media downloads. The unauthenticated download path retrieves and caches attacker-requested remote media without a request-volume limit, allowing storage consumption to grow without bound. File-backed or self-hosted S3 storage can fill and block authenticated uploads; cloud S3 storage instead incurs unbounded service charges.
