Code execution via unvalidated template name
Published May 24, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Code injection in Pug 3.0.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript through an untrusted client-compiler name option. The client-compilation path passes options.name into the generated function declaration without validating that it is a JavaScript identifier. Exploitation requires a consuming application to pass attacker-controlled options to an affected compiler function, enabling code execution in the generated client's context.
