GPU reset via malformed guest VM input
Published Sep 6, 2025 · Updated Sep 8, 2025
Improper input validation in AMD Power Management Firmware on AMD Instinct MI300A and MI300X allows guest OS users to reset the GPU. PMFW accepts arbitrary data from a guest VM, but AMD has not disclosed the specific input quantity or validation operation that fails. Reaching the flaw requires high privileges inside a guest VM, and successful exploitation interrupts GPU availability through a reset rather than exposing or modifying data.
