CVE-2024-36306

Denial of service via symbolic-link file deletion

Published Jun 10, 2024 · Updated Mar 27, 2025

Link following in Trend Micro Apex One Security Agent allows local users to cause denial of service by inducing file deletion. The Damage Cleanup Engine, running inside the Common Client Real-time Scan Service, follows an attacker-created symbolic link and deletes the linked file. Low-privileged code execution on an affected Windows endpoint is required, and the resulting file deletion can interrupt the system.
