Guest privilege escalation via unenforced SPP writes

Protection mechanism failure in SPP on some Intel Processors allows guest OS users to escalate privileges through local access. A malicious guest OS can write to any guest physical address that the VMM marked nonwritable, defeating SPP's sub-page memory controls. The VMM must enable SPP for EPT execution control and map at least one SPP-enabled page into the guest; Intel reports no mainstream VMM usage.
