CVE-2024-36080Network attack vector

Unauthenticated root access via hardcoded hidden credentials

Published May 19, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Hardcoded credentials in Westermo EDW-100 devices through 2024-05-03 allow remote attackers to obtain root access over the network. The firmware's image.bin stores the hidden root username and password as extractable strings, and the device provides no way to change that password. The exposure applies when the management service is network-reachable; possession of the embedded credentials grants administrator control of the converter.
