CVE-2024-36039Network attack vector

SQL injection via unescaped JSON keys

Published May 21, 2024 · Updated Nov 21, 2024

SQL injection in PyMySQL through 1.1.0 allows attackers to alter database queries when applications pass untrusted JSON objects as parameters. The escape_dict function escapes each dictionary value but copies each key unchanged, allowing a malicious key to become SQL syntax during query formatting. Reachability requires a consuming application to pass attacker-controlled JSON dictionaries; resulting queries can read or modify data permitted to the database connection.
