CVE-2024-36015

Local service interruption via unchecked ID allocation

Published May 29, 2024 · Updated May 23, 2026

Improper index validation in Linux ppdev allows local users to interrupt service through a failed device identifier allocation. The register_device function passes a negative ida_alloc result to parport_register_dev_model as an index instead of stopping registration and releasing the port reference. Low-privileged local access to the ppdev path is required; published materials do not identify whether the failure produces a hang, crash, or reboot.
