System crash via unchecked RFCOMM option length
Published May 20, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026
Out-of-bounds reads in Linux kernel RFCOMM socket options allow local users to crash the system through a short option buffer. rfcomm_sock_setsockopt_old() copies a four-byte option from a caller-supplied buffer without first verifying that optlen covers the requested size. Local low-privilege access to an RFCOMM socket is required, and the vendor-assessed consequence is loss of availability rather than data modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
