Kernel memory compromise via unprotected DRM modes
Published May 20, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux kernel DRM client allows local users to compromise kernel memory through concurrent mode-list changes. drm_client_modeset.c retains pointers in modes[] without holding dev->mode_config.mutex, allowing connector-list changes to free or reuse entries before use. Local low-privileged access and a reachable DRM client path are required; successful exploitation can expose or alter data or crash the system.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
