CVE-2024-35940

Kernel crash via unchecked allocation failure

Published May 19, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel allows local users to crash the system through pstore zone log reading. The psz_kmsg_read function calls strlen on a kasprintf result without checking whether memory allocation returned NULL. Low-privilege local access is required, and the documented consequence is availability loss without confidentiality or integrity impact.
