Kernel crash via unchecked NULL HCI response
Published May 19, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the btintel driver in affected Linux and Siemens TM MFP kernel releases allows local users to crash the kernel. btintel_read_version treats a NULL buffer returned after HCI command completion as valid because it checks only IS_ERR, then dereferences the buffer; the fix uses IS_ERR_OR_NULL. Local low-privileged access and an Intel Bluetooth controller are required, and the documented impact is a kernel crash without data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
