Remote filesystem maintenance stalls via leaked write reference

Improper locking in Linux 6.8 through 6.8.4 and 6.9-rc1 allows remote attackers to stall filesystem freeze operations via NFS rename requests. The nfsd_rename error path returns without calling fh_drop_write after acquiring write protection, leaving the mount reference held. Any host permitted by an NFS export can trigger the error without server credentials; repeated requests can block freeze and read-only remount operations.
