Local system crash via unchecked allocation failure
Published May 19, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel allows local users to crash the system during PCI1xxxx SPI controller probing. The pci1xxx_spi_probe function fails to test whether devm_kzalloc returned NULL for spi_bus->spi_int[iter] before later dereferencing that entry. Reaching the fault requires local access and the Microchip PCI1xxxx SPI driver path, and the documented consequence is loss of availability rather than data access or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
