System crash via torn-down SMB session access
Published May 19, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Use-after-free in the SMB client of Linux 3.12.48 through 6.9-rc2 allows remote attackers to crash the system via a lease break. smb2_is_valid_lease_break() traverses sessions being torn down and dereferences session-owned state after its lifetime has ended. The path requires an SMB client connection whose session enters SES_EXITING while a lease-break message is processed, and the bounded reported outcome is a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
