Kernel compromise via exiting SMB session traversal
Published May 19, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux SMB client allows remote attackers controlling an SMB peer to crash or compromise the kernel. is_valid_oplock_break() walks each session's tcon_list after that session enters SES_EXITING, allowing teardown to free objects still being traversed. Reachability requires an active SMB client connection to a hostile or impersonated server; exploitation can corrupt kernel memory, interrupt the host, or execute in kernel context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
