CVE-2024-35815

Local kernel crash via premature AIO conversion

Published May 17, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026

Improper structural handling in Linux AIO allows local users to crash affected kernels through a crafted asynchronous I/O request. The fs/aio cancellation path converts a kiocb to aio_kiocb and reads req->ki_ctx before verifying IOCB_AIO_RW, so a nonembedded kiocb causes an invalid access. Low-privileged local access is required, and successful exploitation interrupts service by crashing the kernel.
