CVE-2024-35811

System crash via uncanceled escan timeout worker

Published May 17, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Use-after-free in the Linux brcmfmac Wi-Fi driver allows local users to interrupt service by disconnecting a USB device during scan cleanup. brcmf_cfg80211_detach frees cfg without first canceling escan_timeout_work, so brcmf_cfg80211_escan_timeout_worker can access the freed object. Exploitation requires local access to hot-unplug the affected Broadcom USB Wi-Fi device while timeout work remains active; the documented impact is a system crash.
