Kernel compromise via unlocked sync-thread teardown
Published May 17, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Improper locking in Linux kernel md/dm-raid allows local users to compromise kernel memory through RAID control messages. raid_message() calls md_reap_sync_thread() without reconfig_mutex even though that teardown mutates mutex-protected fields. Reachability requires local low-privileged access and an active dm-raid sync thread; confidentiality, integrity, and availability are affected.

Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
