System lockup via nonpreemptible exception cleanup loop

Improper locking in Linux dm-snapshot allows local users to hang Linux systems during snapshot removal with many stored exceptions. The dm_exception_table_exit function frees every stored exception in one uninterrupted loop, omitting a scheduling point when the table contains many entries. A local user must be able to create and remove a device-mapper snapshot; CPU starvation can lock up Linux and the SIMATIC S7-1500 TM MFP GNU/Linux subsystem.
