Kernel crash via stale fast_rx VLAN pointer
Published May 17, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux mac80211 allows remote authenticated users to trigger unsafe kernel memory access through VLAN reassignment. The station VLAN-change path leaves fast_rx pointing to the departing VLAN's netdev, then VLAN deletion frees that referenced network device. Reachability requires low-privileged access from an adjacent network and a non-4addr station moved out of a VLAN before that VLAN is deleted.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
