Crawler termination via unbounded response decompression

Denial of service in Scrapy before 1.8.4 and 2.0 through 2.11.0 allows remote attackers to exhaust process memory. HttpCompressionMiddleware enforces DOWNLOAD_MAXSIZE only on the compressed response body, then expands attacker-controlled data without applying the limit to decompressed output. Exploitation requires a spider to crawl an attacker-controlled site; memory exhaustion can terminate the crawler and cached output can also consume disk space.
