Admin account takeover via stored chat XSS
Published Apr 10, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024
Stored XSS in AnythingLLM chat before commit a4ace56a401ffc8ce0082d7444159dfd5dc28834 allows attackers to execute JavaScript. HistoricalMessage passes renderMarkdown(message) output directly to dangerouslySetInnerHTML without sanitization, turning stored chatbot text into executable HTML. Exploitation requires an administrator to add a malicious LocalAI chatbot; execution inherits that administrator's session and can create accounts or change passwords.
