Contributor-level code execution via shortcode template inclusion
Published Jun 1, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Local file inclusion in Content Blocks (Custom Post Widget) 3.3.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute PHP code. The content_block shortcode passes an attacker-controlled template value to PHP file-loading logic without restricting it to an approved theme directory. Contributor access is required; inclusion can expose server data or execute an uploaded PHP payload within the WordPress process.
