Stored XSS via unescaped Sharing block attributes
Published Jul 9, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in WP Engine Genesis Blocks 3.1.3 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through Sharing block attributes. The Sharing block renderer places the user-controlled shareButtonShape value into an HTML attribute without escaping, permitting quote breakout into an event handler. Contributor-level access is sufficient to store the crafted block, and the script executes in a visitor's browser when the affected page is opened.
