Interpreter crash via crafted WebAssembly local declarations
Published Nov 8, 2024 · Updated Mar 18, 2025
Stack overflow in the VMIR e8117 parser allows attackers to crash the interpreter by supplying a crafted WebAssembly file. While parsing the module's local-variable declarations, init_local_vars fails to reject data that exhausts the native stack. Exploitation requires VMIR or an embedding application to load the malicious module; process termination is demonstrated, and the advisory also reports code execution.
