CVE-2024-35226Network attack vector

PHP code execution via unescaped extends filename

Published May 28, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

PHP code injection in Smarty 3.0.0 through 4.5.2 and 5.0.0 through 5.1.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary PHP code. The ExtendsTag compiler trims quotes from the file attribute and embeds each extends filename in a generated single-quoted include argument without escaping embedded quote characters. Template-author access and subsequent template compilation are required; successful exploitation runs attacker-supplied PHP in the hosting application.
